O-Map Assessment

Understanding organisational capability and maturity is crucial.

Focused assessments that don’t lose sight of the bigger picture

Each O-Map assessment is tailored to the unique context of your organisation. This matters because the recommendations on how to make your unique organisation more innovative or digital might be detrimental if it creates too much cultural friction or compromises the ability for your organisation to maintain core business operations.

Assessments should provide insight, not just data

Our assessment of organisational dynamics assesses the capability and maturity of your organisation from leadership, culture and HR to to product delivery and technical practices.

  • See the Whole - With visibility of your whole organisation, you can identify and focus on the constraint to your organisations' evolution.

  • Make Targeted Investments - Evolving your business for digital, agility, and innovation are critical strategic priorities. However, they require significant investments of time and money. Assess to make choices about which to prioritise, and when and where to invest.

  • Compare Against Industry - Optimising an organisation requires constant feedback on how you're doing relative to the market and your competitors.

  • Make Better Decisions With Evidence - Make data-supported decisions about how to act, and measure the results of your actions.

  • Design Measurable Roadmaps - An assessment-backed roadmap unlocks the black box of implementation and provides you with metrics and ways to compare, contrast, prioritise and track interventions.

See your organisation the way a diverse team of specialists does

The O-Map has been specifically designed to provide leaders with a tool for assessing the current organisational state, and detail within specific areas. The O-Map assesses three pillars (Organisation & Culture, Product & Services, and Efficiency & Quality) and three levers (Leadership, Systems, and Practices) of an organisation, and the dynamics at the intersections.

  • Collective Wisdom - Combines the expertise of many specialist disciplines from Strategy, Psychology, Economics, Finance, Sociology, HR, Maths & Statistics, Technology.

  • Simplified Complexity - Allows you to see your situation through multiple disciplines and perspectives, spot complex interactions, and confidently make decisions in complexity.

  • Mapped Progression - Outlines the capability journey for over 50 key organisational elements.

  • Flexible and Scalable - Usable by individual leaders and teams through to large executive teams and multi-national organisations.

  • Practitioner Recommendations - Recommendations from experienced practitioners with decades of experience working with organisational dynamics across a range of organisations.

  • Updated Continuously - Incorporates emerging trends and good practices in modern organisational dynamics.

  • Differentiate Perception from Reality - Using sense-making and psychology we look at the communication and cultural patterns of your organisation.

How we run O-Map Assessments

We use diagnostic surveys, observation, interviews and objective company metrics, engage team members across the organisation, from the C-level through individual contributors, and assess the organisation, departments, and individual teams.

We Offer Three Assessment Levels

Insight

Ideal for executives running flat out, with minimal time to spend, who want to get perspective on their organisational dynamics, what opportunities they might be missing out on, or what challenges are worth addressing.

Two of our senior team spend a half-day with your key leaders to review leadership, structure, organisational systems and strategy. Following this, we hold a feedback session with your leadership, including commentary on the latest organisational design trends and the current state of your organisation.

Pareto

Our Pareto assessment provides you with a comprehensive snapshot view of your organisation which is uniquely useful for organisations that are responding to present challenges or investing to take on longer-term opportunities.

When a Pareto Assessment is useful:

  • When you're considering whether to undertake a major initiative and need a perspective of whether and where to invest. For example, Digital, Agile, or Cultural Transformation effort

  • When you're midway through a major change effort or initiative that's stalled, and want clarity on where things are stuck and how to get them unstuck

  • When a major systemic change has disrupted your talent pipeline, product-market fit, long-term prospects and you need to respond

  • When you have the opportunity to scale your organisation and want to set yourself up to effectively navigate the transition

What’s involved in a Pareto Assessment

Our team spend starts by familiarising you with the Organisational Dynamics model and co-designing the Capture Period. During the Capture Period, our team conducts questionnaires, face-to-face consultations, research and observation to gather a representative indicator of the state of play. We then synthesise our findings into a report, which includes:

  • Current capability scoring and maturity level in nine key dynamics

  • Examples of representative data in each dynamic and metrics in relevant efficiency and effectiveness

  • Assessment and analysis of key findings in all dynamics

  • Expert recommendations and insight into the strongest and weakest areas along with the top three most important interventions to consider

  • Rating against bench marked equivalents and current thought leaders

For longer and more involved engagements, we provide a more detailed report which also includes;:

  • Drill down answers to each question across all levels, roles, departments and geographies.

  • Leadership Workshop covering discoveries and insights, and detailed discussion on the agreed areas of most interest to the leadership team.

Depending on the size of your organisation and the desired depth of the assessment, the Pareto Assessment takes between one to four weeks.

Comprehensive

Our Comprehensive Assessment is designed for organisations interested in developing the ability to self-assess themselves on Organisational Dynamics. We cover everything done in a Pareto Assessment, in addition to:

  • Teaching an internal assessment team to conduct Organisational Dynamics assessments on an ongoing basis (usually, organisations maintain a quarterly assessment cadence)

When a Comprehensive Assessment is useful:

  • About to undertake (or in the middle of) a major initiative for which they want to continually monitor the the progress of

  • Interested in keeping a finger on the pulse of all nine Organisational Dynamics

What’s involved in a Comprehensive Assessment

The Comprehensive Assessment happens over a three-to-six month period, and consists of a Discovery Phase and Capture Period similar to the Pareto Assessment, along with light-touch, ongoing team member training. We then work alongside the internal team to run additional assessment(s) at the three or six-month mark, before a final report and leadership workshop.
